What it measures, and why these angles matter
Riding position is defined by a few measurable joint angles:
- BDC knee angle (knee bend at the lowest pedal point) — the single most important indicator of whether saddle height is right. Reference: endurance 140–150°, performance 135–145°. See knee angle and saddle height.
- Hip angle — reflects pelvic rotation and hip flexion, tied to power, whether the front of the hip pinches, and whether you can sustainably go lower. See hip pain.
